Renewal of Water Conservation Regulations
SUSANVILLE, Calif.,(May 9, 2016) - As the irrigation season begins, we request that City of Susanville water customers continue their conservation efforts. The demand for water during the irrigation season is 3 to 4 times greater than winter/indoor water use. As a result, our community conservation strategy relies on reduced water use during the irrigation season to achieve the bulk of the State mandated conservation by reducing outdoor water use by half.
The State has extended its emergency regulation through October 31, 2016; the revised regulation reduced the City’s conservation standard from 36% to 33%. Overall the community responded well to the call for conservation; however, the City fell short of its conservation requirement. As a result, the State issued a Conservation Order, which included a condition requiring the City to drop to one day per week watering. However, City management was successful in having that condition removed from the conservation order. The State has agreed to allow the City to continue watering three days per week.
