How does Natural gas compare for you? What is the cost of conversion?
Different forms of energy are defined in different ways. Natural Gas is measured in THERMS, electricity in Kilowatts (kwh), Fuel Oil and Kerosene in gallons and Propane in gallons or in cubic feet (cf) when metered. Each form of energy is very different, however, all can be commonly expressed in therms of BTU's or British Thermal Units.
To compare natural gas to alternative energy use, take your current known energy units, multiply this by the appropriate conversion factor to determine the equivalent amount of natural gas required to perform the same function. Then, multiply that by the per-therm cost of natural gas ($2.14 or $1.95). This will equal your projected natural gas cost.
$2.20 per therm calculation: 100 gallons of propane = 92 therms of natural gas (100 x 0.92=92) @ 2.14 = $196.88 $1.95 per therm calculation: 100 gallons of propane = 92 therms of natural gas (100 x 0.92=92) @ 1.95 = $179.40 100 gallons of propane @ current price = Total Propane Cost.
